Guilherme Tâmega: Pipeline delivered beautiful waves and titles back in 1994

Bodyboarding changed a lot in 30 years. Back in 1994, the winner of the International Morey Boogie Bodyboard Pro Championships at Pipeline was considered the world champion.

Guilherme Tâmega conquered the first world championship of his career in 1994. It was also the first title ever for a Brazilian bodyboarder.

In those days, the grand champion was crowned during the International Morey Boogie Bodyboard Pro Championships at Pipeline.

Recent footage of the 1994 clash between Tâmega and Mike Stewart has shown us that those were days. Pipeline appears more powerful and thunderous than ever.

The first edition of the International Morey Boogie Bodyboard Pro Championships was held in 1982.

Daniel Kaimi, from Hawaii, claimed the first title in the history of bodyboarding.

Then, between 1983 and 1992, Mike Stewart would win eight titles. The 1985 tour was not run, and Ben Severson took the 1986 crown.

Tamega's victory also marked the end of the International Morey Boogie Bodyboard Pro Championships.

The newly formed Global Organization of Bodyboarders (GOB) World Tour would assume control of the contests until 2003, when the International Bodyboarding Association Tour (IBA) was established.
